Weird starting problem
Earlier this week my 91 RS (305 TBI) wouldn't start. Had power, headlights, all accessories, but no sound or anything when I turned key. Jumping it didn't work. My first thought was starter solenoid had completely gone out. Car was in a safe spot so I left it, came back the next day and it started right up. Drove it somewhere else, came back the with a new starter and changed it out. Car wouldn't start, still no noise, not even clicking. I got out a meter and I had voltage going to the starter hot wire, so I put the meter on the trigger wire on the solenoid, and had someone turn the key. Nothing was getting to the solenoid. (ignition switch?) 15min later, the car started. turned it off and on 10 times in 20 minute period, all good. Drove car home(yesterday).
Today: Car won't start! Now I can here one distinct click when I turn the key (solenoid engaging?) but thats it.
Both times the car started it was warm out and (75 deg?). It was cooler out the times it wouldn't start, but not by more than 15 degrees.
Help?? Ignition switch? VATS module? Chip in Key?
I'm really dreading the potential bill if I take this to the dealer to troubleshoot.

Re: Weird starting problem
This might sound weird but I had a 1990 Honda accord that wouldn't start then it would. Turned out the ignition module under the dash was bad. When the car sat out in the sun the interior temp would get high enough to warp it internally, leaving the door open for a few minutes would let enough cooler air under the dash for it to start working again, it took me a LOOOOOOOOOONG time to figure out what was really going on but once I did, and changed out the module it never had a problem ever again.

theres a switch on top of the steering column, right above the pedals take your hand and hold the wires tight together and see if it cranks if it does you need a new switch,oh also watch to see if the security light is on when it doesnt crank ifso it could be vats, later jimmy

Re: Weird starting problem
The security light is on. I thought it was just another one of those idiot lights that flash whenever you turn the key, like check engine.
Anybody know what to do about it. or what triggers it? Is it malfunctioning, or am I tripping the VATS somehow? I did have a viper alarm installed a few months ago.
