Idleing problem

So my car has been running fine. until last night when i go to start it and it doesnt start. i give it a little gas and it starts but if i let off the gas it dies instantly. So i get it home and leave for a bon fire and when i come back three hours later its fine, it starts and holds the idle. But i dont want to drive it until i know what the problem was and make sure it is solved. anyone have any ideas ?car is 86 tpi 305 camaro

Re: Idleing problem

First of all, did it throw any troublecodes ? IF so , check them out.

It isnt much to go on but check the standard stuff like sparkplugs, wires, rotor/distributor cap. Is it getting the right amount of fuel ?..

more info would be nice, orelse check those things

Re: Idleing problem

A vacuum gauge and fuel pressure gauge could be your best friends.

Yeah I forgot about that (I have Autometer Cobalt, fuelpressure, vacuum and Air/fuel ratio inside on my pillar..)

So check that at first, starter gas can also be used to find vacuumleaks.. a gauge is always the best but starter gas will work..
