82 T/A Engine Died after 3 sec. Electrical Prob?
I have a stock 1982 Trans Am with the 4BBL 305 engine and only 14,600 miles. This morning when I started the car, it started with ease, ran for 3 seconds and then died. Then it would not run. The engine cranks and cranks, but it will not fire. Yesterday the car ran fine. I started and stopped at least 5 times with no problems. Last weekend I had the same problem and took off the battery cables and cleaned all of the connections. Then after I put everything back together, it started fine. I’m thinking this may be a grounding or electrical problem, as my water temp gauge is pegged past the hot. Yesterday while driving, it came back to normal for a few minutes but then pegged again.
One more piece of info: Last weekend I drained the battery trying to get the car started. When I hooked up the battery charger, it would not take a charge. Yet, when I switched the battery into my other ’82 Trans Am, it took a charge just fine. Any ideas what electrical connections I should begin checking? I don’t have a clue where to begin.
