finishing my 383 build

I believe I have all my parts for my 383 build. I really just want some assurance in what I am doing here.

Complete forged lower end 383 with everything but oil pump and pan.

pioneer balancer
je oil pump
dart pro 1 heads
comp cam nitrous cam
Comp pro magnum roller 1.6 rockers
Comp cam high energy lifters
comp cam pushrods
Dart valve covers
Holley stealth intake
speed demon 750 carb
Starter .. blah blah blah

I think All i need is a oil pan correct? Can I use mine on the 383 stroker setup?

Compression will be around 10.5-10.7:1 and im hoping to rev up to 6500rpms maybe a little.

Whats a good weight for break in motor oil? I guess Im going with rotella to break it in.

Do i need a valv relief piston for the 1.6 rockers?

I was going to use the stock retainers and all for the lifters, will this hinder the strength of the valvtrain. Im prolly going to have 450hp to the wheels N/A. the specs on the cam are here.

Alos will this balancer do well? http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Maybe can i take a step lower there?

Re: finishing my 383 build

Is this going to be a street car? The cam is a little stiffer than mine and the heads flow better. For the street 10:1 compression you could run premium, with the aluminum heads you might be safe higher but it's pushing it a little. Your oil pan should work as long as the dipstick is on the same side, but it's always good to check clearance. A mellings m-77 chevy BB oil pump will fit, as long as you get the pick-up to go with it. Valve reliefs can be checked using clay, the pistons my need fly-cut, but i doubt it. Maybe 475 - 500 hp at the flywheel, but it will have a broad torgue curve. Looks like a real good combo.

Re: finishing my 383 build

compression is fine with aluminum heads, i'm gonna be 11 to 1 and not worried

combo looks good for near 400 ish whp, i dont think 450 is in reach on motor but we'll see i guess. everything else looks decent

stock lifters i wouldnt trust if your springs are fairly stiff and plan to rev to 6500.
I'm running LS7's in mine that are good to 7000rpms and only cost 107 bucks new from SDPC

You have a link to the lifters? I would like that cuz then i can buy a harmonic balancer. HEy orr what balancer are you going to use?

Re: finishing my 383 build

i'm running a romac balancer i got from a guy on this board. Looks good. Else it would have been one from ATI i guess or Fluidampr

http://www.sdparts.com/product/12499...esSetof16.aspx

those are the ls7 lifters. what kind of lifters did you buy already? new factory style replacements? GM or COMP or someone else? If they are comp replacement they will work fine, even the cranes should be ok.

Re: finishing my 383 build

theyre comp ones, but 259 dollar comp ones. Ls7 lifters sound a lot better now.

Im looking at some pioneer balancers. Heard they are good quality.

http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...=KeywordSearch

I was looking at the ones for 130 bux.

Also Anyone know a good place for motor mounts

Re: finishing my 383 build

those lifters you have now will be great, just alot more pricey than the LS7's I've heard ok things about the LS7's from the LSx crowd so i went with them. Used in the LS7 for up to 7000 rpms so they seem to work. Many LSx guys are runnign them with VERY aggressive cams with high lift and high spring pressures so it fits my build to the T even tho my cam isnt as aggressive as some of those LSx cams

LT1 guys are using them successfully so i am gonna try them. For 107 bucks you cant beat it
