Has anyone tried the new cam gm is putting in there 383 crate engine with fast burn heads? I think it is about 500 lift with 222 and 230 @50 and 112 center it makes 400hp and torque I think.

Re: Zz383

I haven't tried it, but it's probably a decent cam for a mild to modest performance application. Little more aggressive than the LT4 "HotCam" (and doesn't require 1.6 rockers to achieve it's spec lift).

The ZZ383 recently got some more power, but only because GM upgraded the Fastburn heads across the board (revised ports and chambers, beehive valve springs). I think it's rated something like 450HP now (~425HP previously). The cam and shortblock are identical to before. This is probably a good thing because NOBODY was raving about how awesome the previous FastBurn heads were. GM wants like a kazillion bucks for them, so they needed to be better than "meh", which is what they were before.

Re: Zz383

Do you think it would be street able enough for a daily driver and have enough manners to not be a headache in in town traffic? Wondering what rpm it idles at in a 350 and what it's rpm range would be. I think I read it goes to 6500 in the 383 but that's probably exaggerated. Probably 5800 real power like tpi is done at 4500.

Re: Zz383

Everyone has different ideas of what a "streetable" cam is. That wouldn't be exactly a "fuel economy" cam, but neither is it going to be a lumpy, stuttering brick at low RPMs. You could daily drive it easily with a manual. With an automatic you're going to want something a bit higher than the stock stall converter.
