LO3 to ZZ383 Swap retaining TBI setup
I want to swap my poor little 305 for that GM ZZ383 Crate motor. I have no experience with TBI, and wanted some help getting a parts list together. I would like to order everything I need in one shot from summit, assemble it on an engine stand, drop it in, hook it up, and drive away. If summit part #'s could be included, that would be great. I'm assuming I would have to use a TB and manifold from a 454.
What will I need to make my TBI work on a ZZ383 using the stock computer and harness?

I don't mean to shoot down your project, just merely informing you of what it takes to make power with TBI. Keep asking questions and we'll get ya squared away.

You will be looking at a few bucks- not sure what you have done to the car in terms of exhaust, suspension and traction, but those will need to be addressed.
Tuning will also be important as BMmonte points out.
I am in the middle of what you are considering, except I installed a 6 speed to boot and have taken care of the exhaust, suspension, traction and tuning on a previous buildup.
Keep at it- but be sure to bring your wallet.

I am aware of the tuning I'm going to have to do, and I am researching on how to burn my own PROM...
What should I do as far as a manifold, TB, injectors, fuel pump, etc? If I have the parts I could put it all together, but I dont know what will fit.
I really want to go TBI, but if it's going to be a major pain in the ***, I'll just go with a carb. (I really, really want TBI to stay)
As far as exhaust, everything on my sig is whats going on the car, nothing more, nothing less.

You won't be using the manifold from the 454!
I'd suggest a single plane manifold. There are threads here where guys have experimented with them. If you do a search, you will find which ones they used and fit under the hood without problems.

lol i was thinking injectors and typed manifold... haha!
yeah im looking to keep a stock appearance, so it's got to clear a stock hood if possible.
at worst I'll slap an "SS" hood on it

Why does that car look so familiar?
If you go with a manifold for a carb, you're going to have to use an adapter plate for the TBI. Those two things will really be pushing your stock hood clearance levels.
You'll most likely have to use a drop-based housing with a 14x2 filter, but I'm not totally sure. Might just be easier to bore out an Edelbrock TBI to 2"

Most people don't find tuning to be easy. Get started on your car NOW while it's stock, that way you have the hang of things before you do the swap.

My next investment is prom burning tools.
If anyone would like to add someting, I could really use all the advice I can get for this conversion.

I have to agree with what BMmonteSS says above.. Start tuning and learning on your current motor first..
I have a TBI 383 and while tuning wasn't really difficult, i imagine it would have been for a first timer...

I don't know, maybe 400hp and 400lb/ft might get you there. If you're going to use nitrous, then it won't be a problem at all.

Acording to GM's specs the motor makes 425hp,450ft/lbs using a GM single plane intake, P/N 12496822 and a 750 CFM Demon carburetor with mechanical secondaries. Test header specs are: 1 3/4" primaries, 33 inches long with 4-inch collectors.
GM dual plane intake P/N 12366573 may be used for hood clearance on the ZZ383/425, but results in a decrease in peak horsepower of approximately 15-20 horsepower.
