problems starteing when hot.
So today it got to be pretty warm for the first time this year, about 78*. I was driving in stop and go traffic, and my car got pretty hot, about 225 - 230 * when moving slow or at stop lights, and it cooled off as soon as the car got moving. So the car never overheated and I did not think that there was anything abnormal about the way it ran, considering the AC was not on because it doesn't work. When I shut off the car for several minutes and came back to start it, it cranked a bit longer before it started for a second and died. On the second try it started and kept running. It did this several times. In the evening as it became cooler and the car ran cooler, it had no problems starting. What could be causing my starting problems when my car is hot?

EFI doesn't vapor lock.
Most likely you have a weak electrical component, like coil or ignition module, that is going open when hot.

The ignition coil I have is an MSD blaster coil. It is only a couple of years old. Are these susceptible to going bad? As far as the ignition module is concerned, I still have the stock one. Maybe I will get it replaced.
Thank you for the input. Your help is very appreciated.

are you sure of the reliability of your gauge, maybe your car is hotter with a more problem like thermostat/gunk in radiator/water pump/fan. you may run a new ground to your motor block.

Re: problems starteing when hot.
My coolant system was flushed, and a new thermostat and water pump was installed when my engine was rebuilt about 2000 miles ago. The electric fans seem to come on. The main fan comes on when the coolant temp exceeds a bit past 220*. The secondary fan has not been coming on while driving, or when the car is running, because my AC freon is too low for the compressor to come on. The secondary fan comes on when the key is in the on position and the engine not running shortly after the car has been driven with the engine temp right around 220. At that point the engine temp seems to be about 230*. As soon as the engine starts, the coolant begins to circulate and engine temp goes down rapidly, causing the secondary fan to go off. I think the ground to the temp gauge is fine. I checked it, because I suspected it to be a bit loose, but I don't see any problems there.
I intend to recharge my AC soon, as the weather is getting warmer, and that should help my car run much cooler about 180*. I am not worried about my car overheating. I am concerned about the gremlin that is causing my car to have a difficulty starting when the engine is hot. The car does not act funny or die while hot. It seems to drive normally and as soon as I move fast enough to keep air moving over the radiator, it does not exceed 190*.
