305 mods

Well I am not a fan of the Chevy 5.0 305, but long story short, I think I am gonna be stuck with a 305. I was wondering, what kind of mods I could do to this motor, to make it faster than my 4 cylinder 1.6L sentra. I don't want to pull the motor at all. No matter what the price is, just please let me know what can be done. It is a carb'd 5.0L with some hacked up exhaust job. I know that a new manual fuel pump has just been put in. Other than that, its stock.

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

What year is the car?

The main problem areas are exhaust and cam, and if LG4 (sounds like it is), air cleaner.

For the exhaust, start with headers, then good flowing exhaust out the back - basically everything stock needs to come off.

For cam, assume valve springs as well. Lots of good cam choices out there.

Single snorkel air cleaner needs to go. Dual snorkel will let it breathe.

The carb and ignition are pretty much okay, although aftermarket coil and ignition module will help it above 4500 RPMs.

I believe it is an 82 RS. It use to be a 4 cylinder, but someone swapped in a 305. Now, with all these mods you have listed, what kind of horsepower, and torque will I be looking at?

There wasn't an RS model in '82, just "sport coupe". But, no biggie.

Carb, right?

You can double the factory horsepower of an LG4. Peak torque would be in the 300 range.
