ive got an 83 model and ive got a hole in my tank and ive been told to use jb weld and in not big on doin half way jobs i need some advice and i want to know the best way to r&r the fuel tank thanks for the help

If you have one hole, you probably have many more on the way. Replacing the fuel tank isn't all that hard, but it's kinda time consuming the first time you do it. You can do it in your driveway with jackstands for support. If you're going to replace the tank, then you should deffinitely put in a new fuel pump. You should consider putting in a new sending unit assembly too. Total parts cost for all new stuff, about $400 at www.rockauto.com.

do i have to remove the axle or just the braces conecting to the axle ive looked at the set up and have the tank loose and some of the braces lose but the tank wont come out can the the fill neck be removed?

You don't have to completely remove the rearend, but you have to disconnect the brake hose so you can swing it down far enough to get the tank out. The filler neck can not be removed.
