Need to do move to carb, heads, cam on stock 305
Need to do move to carb, heads, cam on stock 305
I just got a 1982 Z28 Pace car. 13,000 miles. has been sitting for 20 years. Interior is like new, needs paint. I want to get rid of the cross fire and get a carb/manifold/cam/head combo. NEED SUGGESTIONS THAT WORK

Good lord! Seal that in a hemertic bubble and sell it to a collector! Don't botch up a nice find like that!
If you absolutely must, I wouldn't bother putting that kind of parts into the 305 in the first place. Pull the 305 and put it in a corner of your garage for later when you want to sell the car as numbers matching, and put in a 350 of your choice.
By the time you re-do most of that 305 it'll cost you close to what you'd pay starting from scratch on a 350, plus a 350 would give you an easy 40-50hp right out of the gate.

Sonix is right. You can get a goodwrench 350 for cheap. You can get the 290hp 350 for like $1700. Senior Member

yeah i got that crate motor in mine with an airgap intake, hooker headers, holley 670 steet avenger carb, and tpi serpintine belts. plenty of power nice fun car.... scrounge up a 350... Re: Need to do move to carb, heads, cam on stock 305
I hear you loud and clear Sonic. thanks for the advice. My problem is that I've looked at the value of the pace car in Hemmings and other sites - not good. So I was thinking of painting it the original color and getting the decal kit. I agree, a crate motor makes sense. Where's the best deal?

Hmm. Well keep all the original parts. Sooner or later a collector will want to buy that from you, with all numbers matching parts, and will offer you a CHUNK of coin.
GM sells good basic crate motors. check out scoggindickey. sdpc2000.com
You can get a basic one for under $2000 last I checked. Then you can throw on a performance cam or heads later if you needed it.

12000 original miles? why in the hell would you want to change it from stock? there are about a million modified third gen's out there
