Which balancer do I use?

I'm replacing my worn out 305 with a 350. Both are 1 piece seal blocks. The 350 came with a larger balancer than the stock balancer that was on the 305, does it matter which one I use? Will I run into any interfearance problems with the larger balancer hitting the k member or anything? Thanks.

Re: Which balancer do I use?

My understanding is that SBC balancers are interchangeable. I hope so, anyway. I just put the balancer from my 305 onto my 350. But it's still on the stand, so somebody please speak up if I'm getting ready to screw up.

Re: Which balancer do I use?

It's going to depend where the timing mark is on the balancer and where the pointer is on the front of the engine. If the pointer is close to the small balancer, then it's not going to fit with a larger balancer. If one balancer has the timing mark roughly at the keyway and the other is part way around then you'll never be able to time it without the proper pointer.

Buy a new replacement balancer. They're not that expensive. How old is that old balancer? They don't last forever.
