Hood Clearence Question

Clearence question
I was going to be getting an Edelbrock Performer Air Gap Intake Manifold and I know that the clearence can be an issue with Air Gaps and was wondering if anyone knew if a stock hood could handle it without having to manually modify the hood.

Re: Hood Clearence Question

Yeah but was he running an Air Gap. I was curious if the hood held enough room for the extra space needed for the Air Gap in the manifold.

Re: Hood Clearence Question

I'm running a performer with a 10x2 aircleaner and it only has ~1-1.5 inches of clearance, the air gap is very similar right? im gonna say it will be verrry close but should fit.

Re: Hood Clearence Question

Performer and Performer Air Gap are the same height, and both are shorter than my RPM Air Gap, which fits under my hood (barely).

Re: Hood Clearence Question

I am using an RPM Air Gap and I had to add clearance to my hood.

I heard of guys running real short filters and getting away with it under hood, but I didn’t want to sacrifice airflow.

I did wonder if one of those formula hoods with the budge in them would have worked, but I never tried it.

Let us know what you eventually choose to do.

Re: Hood Clearence Question

I was running the reg. rpm intake and in order to have that fit under hood i had to buy the edelbrock low profile air cleaner...part number 1206

Now I got the rpm air gap....no way thatd fit.

Re: Hood Clearence Question

Im running a RPM Air-Gap with a dropbase air cleaner under a stock 92 camaro hood with blisters. The filter is only 2" but I am running a Holley Street hp without a choke horn.

Re: Hood Clearence Question

People think there's a difference in height between the air gap model and the old style....THERE ISN'T. Go look on the Edelbock site. Both Performer RPM and RPM air gap are the same height, same with the regular Performer.

Re: Hood Clearence Question

Ive got the Performer RPM Air Gap with a drop base n a 3 inch air filter n it cleared my stock hood. The screw down on the air cleaner had a mark on the insulation under the hood where it was up into it. I see no problems with clearance.

its not a out of the box bolt on.... but....
Some modifications are required, but this L-88 air cleaner base gives the most clearance.
The performer Air gap manifold is approx .3" higher than the performer.
