e-85 gasoline

i think ive heard of e-85 carbs and such but can you buy one of those to use on a engine with high compression like a motor that you would need to run premuim in or higher? since e-85 is i think 105 octane

E85 is typically in the 105 octane range. The carb won't be affected by CR so much, so yes, you can use an E85 carb on an engine built for E85 octane.

Re: e-85 gasoline

What is the difference between an e 85 carb and a reg one?

I want to swap my motor over because im running an 11:1 compression

Depends upon how deep into it you want to get.

The QFT E85 750 CFM DP uses the Proform mainbody, their alcohol billet throttle body, stainless steel needle/seat (.140", I think), larger jets, and their E85-specific billet metering blocks.

The key is the metering blocks - the idle and power valve restrictors are enlarged, and the emulsion bleed orfi are modified.

You have E85 available in central Florida?

Re: e-85 gasoline

The difference is you have to run more alcohol per air unit, so just about every hole in the carb needs to be bigger to run correctly.

CSU and AED make e85 carbs that I know of, maybe edelbrock. Theres also quickfuel metering blocks that you can stick in your holley, but I don't know how well they work. (cheap)

Not to mention too that alcohol safe rubber and gaskets must be used. Ethanol will eat rubber.

Overstated. I already said what needs to change.

I've got the QFT metering blocks in my Holley. They made the biggest difference of any of the changes, primarily because of the emulsion bleed restriction changes. QFT also makes a 750 CFM DP (like I already said) and 1050 Dominator E85 carb. You'll spend more converting a Holley than buying the 750 QFT carb from the start.

Not true. Methanol may eat "normal" soft parts, but fuel components have been ethanol compatible for a couple of decades now.

Re: e-85 gasoline

alright so say if my 350 with flat top with 4 valve reliefs with stock 601 heads off a 305 i think there 53 or 52cc has to high compression to run on pump gas can i get a e85 carb and use that since the octane will be higher in that fuel?

Re: e-85 gasoline

IIRC, guys have run up to 16:1 with E85 and no detonation.

Five7-so you like the QFT blocks? How much tuning did you have to do to get it close? I'm thinking about changing my BG mighty demon blow through over.

12.5:1 CR is what I've heard without extreme measures. A 350 with 5cc reliefs, 601 heads, and .040" quench should be fine with E85.

My history: The metering blocks were the last thing I got. I already had the Proform main body running gasoline with standard Holley for the rest. I first tried upping the jets and reducing the air bleeds - worked okay WOT and cruise, idle was terrible. I next tried Proform billet metering blocks, but never got the proper idle feed, power valve restrictors, or emulsion bleed restictors. I installed a QFT alcohol base plate since the Holley was poorly machined, that helped idle a little. The QFT E85 blocks made a difference in power that I wasn't expecting, as well as finally getting a decent idle. I put the air bleeds back to stock Proform (for 4-corner idle) when I put the E85 blocks in. Jetting per QFT recommendations.

I don't recall off the top of my head what BG has available for E85.

Re: e-85 gasoline

Sounds fairly painless, I just wonder since its a carb set up for blow through, if the blocks are different...

Race gas is getting pricey.
