Ticking/Clicking Sound Coming from the Engine

My dad an I did a full tune up this past weekend. We replaced all the plugs, wires, cap and rotor with AC-Delco parts. At first the rotor was not pushed down all the way and made a strong ticking noise, we fixed that and it still made the noise. The rotor was rubbing against the top of the cap. We put the old cap and rotor back on to see if it would do it, and it did, but they were not rubbing this time. We noticed that the distributor shaft was moving up and down a little bit, is this the problem. What else could the sound be?
Any and all help is appriciated.

Is this something that has always been there? The injectors would normally make a ticking sound when they fire. Try to narrow down where the ticking is coming from. It is normal for the distributor to move up and down some, but not side to side. You can try to use a piece of rubber hose as a statocope to narrow down where the noise is coming from.

i think it is coming from the distributor, and also, the tach is going crazy, could i have bumped a sensor or something that would make the tach do that?
