Re: Question about stroking to 383
depends on where you're coming from on compression. It will only bring it up about 6 tenths of a point so if ur compression to start with was 9:1 or 9.3:1 you'll be fine with the higher octane pump gas. It varies from who you talk to but most people say that 10.5:1 is all the more compression you want on iron heads with 92 octane pump gas. so going off that you would be fine even if you were 9.8:1-9.9:1 or so on compression with the 350. You could also always swap ur heads out to some aftermarket ones with bigger combustion chambers.
heres a calculator you can play with for compression

good luck

CR is nothing but the total BDC cylinder/combustion chamber volume divided by the total TDC cylinder/combustion chamber volume. Just choose the TDC cylinder/combustion chamber volume so that the CR comes out at a reasonable level.
More dish in the pistons produces better results than more combustion chamber volume in the heads. Also, aluminum heads can handle/need more CR than cast iron heads.
Above all, keep the quench height in the .040" range - do not fiddle with quench height to change CR.
