changing Alt pulley
I have seen this can be done with an impact wrench, but I do not have one.
So I am wondering if I really need to get the "pulley puller" tool or would I be able to get it off with just the hex key for the bolt??

Re: changing Alt pulley
i forget what the stock pulleys are like, but on my alt, i have the hex key center and a nut holding the pulley on. You use the hex key to hold the shaft still then take the nut off, and the pulley comes right off

Re: changing Alt pulley
Ok thanks.
Not sure how I am gonna get a socket over the nut while the hex key is in the bolt though.....hmmm....the nut is recessed so I don't think anything other than a socket will get in there....
looking increasingly like the puller tool is a good idea...

Re: changing Alt pulley
Ok this is getting really f-ing annoying!
So autozone tell me there is no puller tool for this type of pulley "just undo the nut and it will come off" they say...
Well how the F am I supposed to hold the nut AND a hex key in the same damn place when a wrench does not fit inside the recessed edge to hold the nut and a socket would prevent the hex key from going in???
Sorry to vent but this is ridiculously way harder than it should be to undo one freaking nut/bolt.
Someone please shine your wisdom on me, there has to be a trick to it that someone is not telling?

Re: changing Alt pulley
Take it to a mechanical shop and just ask if someone can impact it off for you... they'd likely do it for nothing, it only takes a second. Impact gun is the only good way to do it. And you can buy decent 1/2" electic impact guns for fairly cheap.

Re: changing Alt pulley
Yeah, I jut got back from autozone for a second opinion, no help.
Advance Auto did help, said they'll do it for me with an impact.
I did also find a tool for it online (that neither store carries) but it is $50, I could get a cheap impact for less LOL
I am just tringt o be cheap as the unexpected pulley has already added $30 to my total cost that was not appreciated. (why the F it doesn't COME with the smaller pulley on it I don't know....maybe GM trucks that also use them idle higher and don't need the smaller pulley?? who knows...)
Good thing our belts are as easy as belts get, I can just switch i out in their parking lot! ha ha ha
