heads

ok i have a set of corvette heads #113, these heads are stock with 0 miles. they came off a zz4 crate motor. I heard some rumors they will fit onto a 305, which i have. now the 305 is brand new, 700 miles, bored 0.030 over. i think its a 350 cam in there now, but if i was to put these heads on it the cam would change and i would be adding tpi. does anyone have any experience or info on this? this idea is not set in stone, please no comments on oh its a 305 blah blah blah, i cant afford a 350 right now and i would like to retain the 305 because it is stock to the car. Thanks

Re: heads

You need to find out what size valves and combustion chambers (cc's)the new heads have.

No need to "find out". They have 58cc chambers, 1.94"/1.50" valves.

They will fit. Since the heads are aluminum, which transfers heat more readily than cast iron, it will be an effective lowering of compression on a 305. Remember, those heads were used on a 350, and the 350 had 64cc chambers when cast iron.

Exactly what "350 cam"? There are a bunch out there, and many are worse than 305 cams. Need more specifics.

Most likely you can bolt the heads on and go. Should run a little better than stock 305 heads with cam & exhaust upgrades because of the larger intake valves. Hopefully the engine was rebuilt with stock-like flat-top pistons and not the typical dished rebuilder pistons.

(By the way, it's "0.030 inch over", not .30". Can't bore the typical 305 .30" over.)

350 cam im not sure of, the kid i bought it from lost the paperwork conveniently. but i do know for a fact its flat top pistons with "0.030" on the top of them. im not too worried about the cam that is in it because i want to upgrade it since im doing all this work. i heard a zz4 or HOT cam works nicely?

See sig.

The ZZ4 cam only works if the block is a factory roller type.
