I am doing a auto to manual swap and have pieced it all together but having some issues. From what I've read most say that manual and auto crossmembers are same. I've got another thirdgen already built that came stock w/T5 and that crossmember is different than the 86 iroc that I'm doing the swap on. I got it to bolt up but wondering why it is defferent from my 83 Z. The T5 I bought for the swap has the rubber bushing with a stud that goes through the crossmember. The one on my 83 has more of a square bushing with stud that looks like it bolts to another plate above the crossmember and then this plate bolts to the crossmember with 4 bolts. Do I need to find a different crossmember for the Iroc that is like my 83 Z or do I just run like it is? Any help would be appreciated.

 

I am no where near a expert on these things but I have a guess on why they may be different.

I would think chevy would use the same cross member for the t5 and the auto to save money. I believe in 83 they where still using the th200c not the 700r4 which might explain the difference in crossmembers.

Ok someone tell me how wrong I am! LOL

Huh.....Well I guess that answers my question pretty well huh? Ya Topeka here, you should come up for the weekly cruise night on saturdays. I appreciate the help on crossmember situation. Maybe we can get together sometime.
