problem removing sending unit from tank

Well, i was just wondering how the heck you get the sending unit out of the tank of an FI car? I got the lock ring off but i can't get the whole sending unit out of the tank. The float arm points to one side and the strainer to the other, which makes it wider than the hole. The strainer can't be bent according to the instructions and it has to be marked for direction and there is no way of taking it off in the tank.

How the heck do you get the unit out? I tried putting a wire in and lifting the float arm up to poke that out first but it can't swing all the way to the top.

thanks.

TTT

I have read many cases on TGO of people doing pumps but never any mention of how to get the unit out of the tank. Any help?

you could reach into the tank and rotate/remove the strainer... but you should be able to just fold it up to get the unit out.

when i did mine i just had to play around with it until at slid out, the strainer i think rubbed on the edge of the hole of the tank as i took it out, but it doesnt matter because ur gonna replace that just remeber how it was positioned, u can bend the strainer to if u have to

ok, cool, thanks. Got it out. They are kind of stiff and metal so i wasn't sure if you could bend it or not without damaging it (and it recommended not to in the new pump info).

Unfortunately the new pump is not plug and play though (AC Delco), you have to cut and splice wires. What did you guys do, just solder and leave it bare like suggested in the instructions?
