First start since engine rebuild, gas out exhaust, in oil.
I finally fired up my car after rebuilding the top end, heads, cam, lt1 intake.
It took about a while to get it started. Once it was running I only let it run for a few minutes. After shutting it off I notice quite abit of gas coming out of the exhaust. When I checked the engine oil it looked like it was also full of gas.
After doing a search here the only thing I found was that it could possibly be because the timing was to far advanced. I don't know what my timing is at, I never had the chance to check it. Does that sound right to anyone?
I could smell gas before the car finally started. Is it possible that it is just from cranking the engine for so long?
Any info or input would be appreciated.
More info on what I did/am doing to the car can be found on my cardomain page in my sig.

I don't think timinig has anything to do with gas in the engine oil. Sounds like gas is excessive in the intake and leaking thru the exhaust valves or leaking in the valley under the intake. I would check for any excessive fuel sitting in the intake.

I checked the afpr tonight, it came with the lt1 rails I bought. I had a hard time getting it loose. It was either siezed or way to tight. Might have been blocking the fuel return to much. I'll have to try starting it again. I just hope thats it, its expensive to change your oil every 2 days

I would deffinately figure out where the gas is comeing from. If u let to much gas into the oil it can wash out the rings and u would then need to rebuild. I had gas in my oil on my first motor. Didnt have a clue until it spun two of the rod bareings. Then it was start over n rebulid again which really sucked.

It's either injector or regulator related. First check fuel pressure and leakdown. Next pull fuel rails, place catch jars under injectors and briefly crank to see if one or more injectors is pouring. Also pull the plugs and inspect them to see if the problem effects all cylinders or just one.

I had a fuel pressure gauge and it held at 40 when I primed the ignition it held the pressure for quite a while so that would rule out it being a leaking injector wouldn't it?
I'm pretty sure the regulator was cranked all the way down so it wasn't letting enough gas return to the tank, would that make any sence?

Ok, I pulled the rail and put catch cans under the injectors. I had my wife prime the pump while I watched. Occasionaly all the injectors would spray, thats not supposed to happen is it?
Are they only supposed to spray if you are cranking the motor? There was no real pattern to it, just occasionally they would spray and most times they would not. It seemed that if the ignition was turned on and off quickly it would only spray the first time and if you waited say 10 seconds before turning the key then they would spray again.
Any thoughts? ECM issue maybe? I burned a custom chip it is just the super aujp v4 with a few minor things I changed to make it apply to my car, one of things I changed was injector size from stock to 26lb since I am using ls1 injectors.
Any input would be greatly appreciated as this is the only thing holding me back from starting the car.

Can anyone confirm if this is normal for injectors? (last post)

I know on later tpi cars w/o a cold start injector all 8 injectors fire at once for cold starts but I'm unsure if it is suppose to happen right after the pump primes or if it is supposed to wait until you crank the engine.. hopefully someone else knows more about that than I do..
