Electrical problem, some sort of short?

Okay, I posted a thread about my 86 z not charging the battery/ getting the right voltage. I found a wire that was going to the starter that had been chewed up and I fixed it and now the car's battery gauge reads about 14v while the car is on. I thought that the problem was fixed because before the gauge would never exceed 12v.

I drove the car for a couple hours yesterday parked it...went to start it again and just "click" from the starter. Today I just swapped the battery with the one out of my Blazer and it started right up. The weird thing is that I put the other battery into the Blazer and that started right up, too.

Could I possibly have a bad + cable going to the battery or another chewed up wire? The battery seems to be charging and the volt meter in the car seems to work...dips when I turn on lights ect. then goes back up when reved.

I would really like to drive this around more without a fear of getting stranded. Any suggestions on what it could be? The car has a brand new alternator, starter, and fairly new battery. Bahh, I am getting so discouraged.

I would remove, clean, and reinstall both ends of both battery cables.

I am going to do that. It is getting so discouraging. Definitely something within the charging system it seems. Are the wires that go into the plastic clip for the alternator apart of the positive battery cable?
