stalling issues
stalling issues
I'm having some stalling issues with my 1987 TPI 305 IROC. She just rolled over 50k miles so it sits a lot.
The car idles at 750rpms in neutral (manual car)
it will then stall out when i'm stopped, coming to a stop etc etc, basically when i'm not in drive and the RPMs are low.
just recently when I'm driving, and lets say i'm turning, and i put in the clutch, she'll stall out and die.
she does puff some white smoke ONLY on start up, but the seals have probably just dried up, its done this for years.
What I've done:
First thought - bad gas - put new 94 octane along with the most expensive "cleaner" I could buy. Figured either some water in the tank, slightly clogged injector...this did help some, but now the stalling is getting worse again
Fuel filter was changed when I bought the car, about 8 years ago, less than 8k miles.
So whats my problem?
fuel pump?
gummed up filter? Even though I always store the car with Stabihl in it
gummed up injector? (not likely)
my main guess - IAC!!!
If you think its the IAC, can you tell me what voltage I should see? I can scan it with an OBDI and find out, correct?

Re: stalling issues
a friend of mine said i should pull the EGR and clean that out good, could cause the same issues as the IAC
but where the hell is the EGR on this thing? so much emissions crap i can't see straight

Re: stalling issues
All you need to read the codes from your computer is a paper clip.
I don’t remember what two pins to jumper on your port, to get the codes, but if you do a quick search in this website about retrieving codes, you will probably find it.
First thing I would do if I were you is pull the codes, and see what they car tells you is wrong.
As for EGR value, on those TPI systems it’s a pain, it is under the Air Intake / Plenum near the back.
