Idle Speed Question

What should I set my idle speed to on my car? 1985 Camaro 305 Tuned Port Injection, automatic, has a cam in it 260/260 duration .444.444 lift(dont know if that would make a difference or not).

Re: Idle Speed Question

Also, I just read that the set timing connector must be unplugged while doing this adjustment. Is that really necessary?

Re: Idle Speed Question

The stock idle RPM is 500 (without IAC connected and Hot engine)
You can try setting it to 550rpm and then connect the IAC again and test for proper idle operation.

Thirdgen manual : https://www.thirdgen.org/tpimod2

Iroczone manual : http://www.iroczone.com/techartcleaniac.html

Let me now how that turns out for you. (its best to log with TTS Datamaster or an real RPM tool, its hard to see exact on the rpm gauge inside the car. Im using Datamaster when setting idle rpm..)

Re: Idle Speed Question

Thanks, I used that page and set my idle, it has a slight stalling problems sometimes though. Should I turn the idle up more with it having a cam in it or is that not necessary?

Re: Idle Speed Question

You could try 575 and see how that turn out for you. I wouldnt go much above 575 (without IAC) that can cause high idle, wich isnt nice. idle around ~750 warm engine got nice sound

Re: Idle Speed Question

well 1000rpm is to high it should try setting it lower.. try getting closer to 750/775 with IAC connected and idle..

Re: Idle Speed Question

At this idle setting it seems to be alright. Im having problems with my car being very sluggish/slow (cant figure out that problem) though and the higher I had the idle the less likely it was to stall. Sometimes when I really get on the gas it will stall and other times when I go from driving to making a quick stop it will also stall.
