Dropping the oil pan?

I did a search and came up with nothing. Is it possible to drop the oil pan on my 355 enough to put in a new gasket without jacking up the motor. Are there any bolts i absolutely will not be able to get to even with the proper extensions and swivels/swivel sockets?

Re: Dropping the oil pan?

Are you sure, i don't need to pull the pan out just lower it enough to pull out the old gaskets and install new ones, and if i do need to jack up the motor is it safe to do that by jacking on the harmonic damper?

no do not jack up by the dampener u need to lift the motor with a "cherry picker" engine hoist... the dampener can and will snap off the snout of the crank it happens alot. u will have to lift it cause the pan sits soooooooo close to the k member....

That's odd. My search turned up this THREAD. It's even got the hint on where to spot the crank...

Re: Dropping the oil pan?

the crank will be fine, lifting the engine. but if you start to lift the car by the balancer, its toast!

Re: Dropping the oil pan?

what about cleaning the mating surfaces and the junk in the pan

its in there

I guess I just get lucky jacking the crank

or is it the fact that I use a 2x4 vertically and it will break before the crank
