Ignition Problems

Well, this for anyone who has converted from an HEI to a different distributor. I have the new 400 engine in and all buttoned up and I can't get a spark to all cylinders. I have switched from an HEI to a Ready to Run distributor from Summit along with a Petronix HV Blaste coil. I have hooked everything up according to the instructions, but I am not firing on all cylinders, any ideas? I pulled all spark plugs out and found almost half of the eight not firing, I have Petronis 8.0 wires and I have full battery voltage to the coil coming into it, but am unsure of how check for anything else such voltage out or any other tests. I dried the plugs checked the gap and reinstalled the wires making sure they are securely connected to the plugs and it is still only hitting on some cylinders. I am stumped at this point, is there a ballast resistor that needs to go in line somewhere? Any help would be greatly appreciated since my driving season is fast coming to an end.

Re: Ignition Problems

which ones are not getting spark? are they in a sequence of the firing order? check the inside of the distributor cap maybe?

Re: Ignition Problems

Problem solved, turns out that the Petronix Coil was not compatible with the Summit Distributor. Talking to the tech guy at Summit he said that though the Petronix website said that the coil I bought should work, it will not and it didn't. Bought an Accel Super Stock coil, problem solved. To think I have chased this for 4 days and to find out that the coil wan't compatible just burns my butt!! So now I have a 70.00 coil that I cannot use that I will try and sell cheap to someone who has a Petronix distributor and needs a coil. Now to button things up and get it on the road.
