White smoke from exhaust and rich smell
1991 camaro.....I just replace O2 sensor, my car was pouring white smoke from exhaust and the smell could knock you out. Now it's better but it's still doing it, any ideas on what else the problem could be? Thanks
Re: White smoke from exhaust and rich smell
the white smoke usually means head gasket issue... i would suggest checking compression on each of the cylinders... if it was just fuel issue you would have a black smoke, was the car recently overheated?

Re: White smoke from exhaust and rich smell
It was overheated awhile ago. The guy I bought it from replaced the radiator and the upper and lower hoses and thermostat. I've replaced the o2 sensor, cooling fan motor and smog pump. I have no idea how hot he got it. there is no coolant in the oil. The exhaust dont have a sweet smell. I'm trying to get this car ready for emissions. I'm trying to figure out why its smoking while I'm replacing the springs and tie rods, stuff like that. This camaro wasn't taken care of at all. So I'm trying to bring it back to life.I only need to replace the EGR valve now. I'm hoping it's nothing major with the smoking thing. Could it be the valve guides? I know the sat for alittle bit(a few months). Anymore suggestions? All are welcome.
Thank you in advance

Re: White smoke from exhaust and rich smell
You should visit the local board, (Southwest region) Your car looks a little like my 86 IROC.. Anyways did you try disconnecting the ecm, or the battery for a while(5 min) the service manuals say this "Resets" The ecm. If your o2 sensor was bad your ecm would be running a "Default setting" (rich fuel mix) replacing the o2 sensor might not fix this this without disconnecting the ecm...
