ignition timing help

ok gota 86 transam 305 motor automatic.
the exhaust fell off of it in 2005 i ran it for a year with no exhaust.
i had a mouse turd (mustang) that this happened to years ago. well with no exhaust the timing jumped. now my question is how hard is it to adjust the timing on my trans am and what all might in entail for doing so?
thank you
