Yes, both the intake bolt pattern for the center four bolts is at a different angle, and the '89 intake doesnt have the hole for the cold-start injector. Only 85-86 manifolds are the same. You can also use any aftermarket TPI intake such as from Edelbrock.

The reason I am asking is because I am looking into buying a engine from a guy that does not have center bolt heads but he was using the intake from an 85 TPI. Will I run into problems with putting my intake (89) on that engine or should I use his intake?

Yes, your intake has the four center bolts at a different angle than his 85 intake. Your intake will fit, but the four center bolts will not work. You could use his intake, or get an aftermarket TPI intake, as I said.

You could just angle the holes on the manifold using a drill and carbide bit....I did it with mine and it set in there fine
