New Engine, Running hot--need some help please

Hey guys,

I've got a problem with the new 355 that I just got running in my 84 T/A. It runs fine at idle and driving around town at 30mph but once I get going it starts heating up. on the freeway it at 2600rpm at 70mph it runs at the hashmark above 220* (the mid point) on my temp gauge. If I shift down and run 3000rpm it bolts for the red line. I've checked the fan, cooling system and shround and swapped thermostats and nothing...it's still doing it. I remember reading on the boards here that if I'm runnign too lean it could cause the engine to run hot. Is there any truth to that and if so, how do I adjust my CC Qjet to run a little richer? The Qjet is only 2 years old, I bought it from Jet performance products and had them build it for my 305. Is this something that's easy or something that's going to involve taking it apart? Or am I way off the mark here and need to look somewhere else?

The fan seems to be turning on later than the 185* advertised by Jet's new sensor that I added. Radiator not plugged, airdam in good shape. One thing I am going to check is to make sure I don't have a water bubble and I'm going to double check my timing, it might be too advanced.

Thermostat good? put it in a pan of boiling water and watch to see that it opens. The only way that I know of to adjust mixture on q-jet is to replace the O2 sensor. They're fairly cheap at autozone. I don't think that this is causing the problem though. If you want to check it the hillbilly way, pull the O2 sensor out and drive around. The misinformation will cause the carb to go way rich. Probably a bad plan if you want to conserve gas.
