Which valves to adjust..
Maybe you guys can help me out here.. I'm having a slight mind lapse.. I can't remember which valves to adjust when. Here is how I'm doing it, engine is on a stand, timing cover is off. New cam is in place, hyd roller if anyone's interested.. anyway which valves can I adjust with the timing gears dot to dot and which valves can I adjust with them straight up?

About half of them. . .
Better method is the intake-closing/exhaust opening method. When the intake is about 1/2-2/3 closed after being fully open, adjust the exhaust on that cylinder. When the exhaust is just starting to open, adjust the intake. Repeat 7x.

Re: Which valves to adjust..
The thing I don't understand is how I'm suppose to determine what the valves would be doing.. Should I just throw the pushrods in, set the rockers on and tighten them slightly and attempt to adjust from there? I don't really know where to start with that method since I don't even have a single valve adjusted.. I thought I could use the pushrod spinning method and adjust x intake and x exhaust valves while it's set to firing on #1 and than adjust the remainder with the engine set to fire on #6?

From this thread:

I tried the listed method recently and it worked great. Previously, I had always done it with the engine running.

There are a few different ways to go about it
3) Take off both valve covers, loosen all rockers. Put engine in #1 firing position, tighten all rockers until all slack is gone. Turn engine over 1/2 turn at crank, take all slack out of whatever rockers are loose. Turn over 1/2 turn, take out slack, turn over one more time, take out all slack. Now give each one 1/2 more turn down.

Thanks for the link, that sounds to be the easiest way to do it with it sitting on the stand. Thank you to both of you!

Re: Which valves to adjust..
I have always had good luck this way.
Turn motor over untill 1 set of valves are closed. Get the pushrods at 0 lash and then give it a 1/4 turn. Repeat for the rest of the cylinders. Always works good for me.
