Timing Cover Question

I have a rebuilt 305, i have installed an aftermarket timing cover with the timing tab that bolts onto the side, i have also installed a new harmonic balancer that is from summit, but it is OEM and has the degree marks on it. I was told by a friend that i need the original timing cover with the timing tab on top to get the timing correct. Is this true, or am i ok with the setup i have, i have timed it with what i have right now and it is dead on. Thanks for any info...

Re: Timing Cover Question

The marks on the balancer need to match the timing pointer location.
