changing to arp main studs???

I have a 383 lt1 that just broke its second main cap bolt. they look like stock ones to me i was told it had arp though. But i decided to order some studs to try and keep it from happending again. i was looking at the instructions on the studs and it says you have to have the block aligne honed with them installed.
I really dont have the time to pull the motor and break it down right now i was wondering if it is absolutely necessary to do this?
I just wanna get my car back up and running since its my dd.

Re: changing to arp main studs???

You probably have a problem if you're breaking main cap bolts, and the problem is probably not the bolts.

Yes, you're supposed to have it honed with the new studs and the increased clamping force.

No, you don't have to, it will probably live without doing it. Mine has.

Re: changing to arp main studs???

did you tighten yours down to 80ft/lbs like arp says too or did you do a little less?

Torqued to whatever ARP says. If it says 80 ft-lbs, do it.
