Car: 1988 camaro rs
Engine: 305 v8
car will stall after running then wont even start!

title says it all. ive had timing problems so i turned it on after it was sitting for a few days started fine i was turning the distributor to just try to get it at a decent idle then it was running fine i let the car run for about 10 mins it was inbeetween 1000-1500 rpm the whole time. then i put it into reverse the car stalls."usually it will run for a very little time in gear if i dont revv the engine" AND THEN the car wont start at all it will just turn over and over and over and over and over!!!! plz help

*the car also runs pretty rich as well atm you can smell the gas from the exhaust pretty easily**

i may be wrong, but dont most sb's idle at 600-800? so i think your already a little high...

is this carb'd or tbi? it will help people determine whats causing your richness in A/F ratio.

it is carb'd which kindof carb im not quite sure of ill have to take a more in depth look tommorow after work........man i wish i could just know what the problem was and how to fix it... like get 20 years of experiance with the snap of my fingers so i dont have to learn all this stuff

You're timing is out and will need to be put back to what it was before you turned the distributor. If you can remember which direction you turned the distibutor or what position it looked like before you touched it,put it back to that and it should at least start. Then get ahold of a timing gun and fine tune the timing.
