Winter storage. Full tank or empty tank.

I've always stored my car with a full tank and some stabilizer. But I've been hearing about some people storing for the winter with 1/8 tank or less. That appeals to me since every spring I've got a tankful of old gas I can't wait to run through.

Any thoughts?

Gas tank can't rust if it's full of gas.

Full tank = no condensation

Full tank and some fuel stabilizer (O2 safe if necessary).

Re: Winter storage. Full tank or empty tank.

I used to store with a partial tank until my tank got some condensation, rusted my fuel sending unit, and consequently messed with my fuel level indicator.

I'm now an advocate of a full tank of premium.

The full tank (or nearly full) works for me, but lower octane has worked out best for me during storage. Adding plenty of Sta-Bil and some two-cycle oil for about a 100:1 ratio has proven effective for me for the last 14 storage seasons.

Yep, another vote for a full tank.
I've never used stabilizer, but have heard good things.
Condensation is the worst enemy. Running through some crappy gas doesn't take long.

Re: Winter storage. Full tank or empty tank.

i have never had gas in my tank, maybe 1/8th tank if that. car gets stored outside under a cover on my driveway. Havent had a problem, its a new tank tho...and then again it seems every winter i am changing the engine or fuel system so either way there is kinks...ugh.
