no power/poor idle - fixes itself randomly

First off I am dealing with a stock, 1991 tpi camaro. My problem occurs randomly and I have not been able to duplicate it. Can anyone point me in a direction?

I am having trouble with my idle. The car idles, but barley and it wont rev normally, instead it revs very slowly. During driving it suffers from the same funny idle, rev capabilities and has very little power. I have not received any dummy lights and the kicker is it will go back to running/idling normally when restarted later in the day. This has happened to me on four occasions and I would like to get it fixed before dies and leaves me stranded. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you tried checking the O2 sensor? A faulty O2 sensor is the first thing that comes to mind for me.

check the condition of the mass air wiring, and the the wiring and condition of the Idle Air Control (iac) and like mentioned the O2 but if that were bad usually it would just run real rich and stay in "open Loop"

83firebird83 I assumed an 02 sensor would give me a check engine light. I guess I will start there. Unless there are any other ideas.

Mass air wiring? I thought all 1991 tpi cars were speed density. You lost me on this one. My Iac wiring looks fine. I will pull the sensor and take a closer look at it.
