383 Cam Upgrade :D
I am rebuilding the motor again and with help I have a feeling third times a charm! The old cam was about the max I wanted to run since it used to be EFI but now I am carb I want to possibly step it up.
I am running a ~10.1 CR 383 with 64cc Trickflow 23 degree heads and the Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap. The exhaust is needing a serious upgrade as well but that will be tackled after the motor is running.
The old cam is a .510/.520 lift, 281/288 (230/236 @ .050), on a 112 LSA.
I'm running Comp 987 springs and would like to keep them if possible so what is everyone thinking???

Those springs limit you to .600" lift. My guess is that you'd want to get a cam with up to .560" lift and have the option of 1.6 rockers to have more streetability from lower duration. You could also just get the biggest duration for the .600" lift which will give more power, but little to no vacuum and want probably a 4000+ stall.

Re: 383 Cam Upgrade :D
you willing to upgrade those rear gears?
if so, since you have overdrive now, i'd go to 3.73 and CAM IT UP. i'm thinking a 24x/25x with 110LSA. The 383 will eat up the cam like nothing.

The rear completely needs to go but will be down the line. I'm not really concerned with the rear, tranny, and exhaust since it all needs to be upgraded soon. I just want to maximize the motor at this point.
Oh, I'm also running COMP 1.6 Pro Magnum roller rockers and am and will be using a 5 speed tranny for good.
