Help with my smoke signals please!
Help with my smoke signals please!
So I've never had blue smoke come out the exhaust until today.
I was trying to drive it up on a couple of pieces of wood(2 2x6's stacked each side) to give me more room to get my jack under. Well this time I didn't even try to get a moving start and just put the wood in front of the wheels. I guess it was a pretty steep step for the tires to try and climb, cus she wouldn't go up. My RPM's went up pretty high and I saw some blue smoke out the back. I tried to make it smoke again by just revving it in neutral, but not a even a hint of smoke this time. What does this indicate? I think the proper way to describe this is "Blue smoke under load" right?
Even on the road, when I really give'r, I don't notice blue smoke (maybe because of my tinted rear window?).
What's going on here, something to worry about?

The most common SBC blue-smoke culprit is valve stem seals. But, that's usually during hot start or idle. It is possible that you had oil being sucked into the combustion chambers at idle that didn't exhibit itself until you went under load, but blue smoke under load is usually oil getting past the rings.
How fresh is the oil in the engine now? How well has the engine been maintained (oil changes, spark plugs, air filter, etc.)?

I forgot to mention that I just replaced the PCV, and I dropped it before putting it in. Could a new PCV, or a broken one cause this?
Also the oil is quite old, not many miles on it, just old.

I doubt you damaged the PCV valve by dropping it. Possible, they are fairly cheap so if you try another one that would eliminate that possibility (assuming you don't drop it as well...).
