SES light
SES light
so i was trying to pull my CEL codes. i have a 87 auto ta with 305 4bbl, the cel is on i know one of the codes should be o2 and one should be from the lack of a smog pump, however i want to know exactly what codes are stored, but my 12pin connector only can with pins 1,3,4,5,6. all else are just empty ports. i tried jumpin 5 and 6 with my GM code key but no luck, and jumpin 6 and 12 isnt an option cause i dont have anything in 12 but i tried it anyhow (jus for heck of it) no good. so is there anyway to check my CEL since i cant manually do it? do i like need to pick up one of them obd1 GM code scanners?

Does the CEL come on when you turn the key on? ie, does the bulb work?

Then it's probably time to start looking at the wiring. You might try reseating the ECM connector. Do you have a voltmeter (not a test light)? You can check for ground on the upper right terminal and 5V or so on the one to the left of it.
