Hey guys.
Does anyone have any experience with the comp cams 286hr in a 355ci motor? 230 @ .050 .560" lift
I'm currently running the 280h (230 @ .050 .480" lift) flat tappet and am upgrading with some new heads as well. It idles fine now with plenty of vacuum.
I'd assume I'm not going to notice much difference in idle quality. Even though the roller cam has more advertised duration, roller cams snap the valves open and close much quicker, thus producing better idle characteristics, right?
Any thoughts?

I am running the 282hr without any problems. I got 15 in. of vacuum at idle, and even ran it for a little while with the stock convertor. It would light the tires up off the line with 3.42 gears.
That cam should be more then capable of putting you in the 12's easily, and should be pretty streetable..... but mileage won't be the greatest.

Yeah, I'm hoping for mid 12's.
I'm running my current flat tappet cam with edelbrock heads. They max out at 230 cfm.
I'm upgrading to the roller cam with new RHS heads that theoretically flow 270 cfm.
We'll see how it goes.

I get low 12's on a little smaller cam. people get 11's all day with a 276 hr that's tuned out good. The power is there to be had.
