Installing poly locks

This is a newbie question but I would rather get it right...

When installing poly locks for the rocker arms is this correct:

Install poly lock finger tight
Turn poly lock 1/4 turn more with wrench
then rotate crank and run through the procedure of tightening the set screw
for each rocker arm

I read from some other engine build that they used a dab of grease on each end of the pushrods when installed. Is there a certain grease to use for this and certain kinds that should NOT be used? Any other lubricating and cleaning suggestions when installing rocker arms, purods, poly locks, etc...

Re: Installing poly locks

That sounds strange.
Make sure the valve you're on is on TDC, (EOIC or however you like), then install poly lock, to desired preload (hydraulic cam? 1/2 turn or whatever of preload), then back it off maybe 1/8", tighten the set screw, and turn both together the last 1/8 of a turn. That will lock them together like GANGBUSTERS, and they will NEVER come loose.... I rounded a handful of my setscrews last night trying to get the ba$(*%'s loose!

brake kleen would be my cleaner of choice, it self flashes off.
ARP thread grease, moly lube of any flavor, lubriplate 105 or whatever it is...

Re: Installing poly locks

I have read about EOIC and somewhat understand the procedure but as I turn the crank I am not 100% what position I am in.

Can someone help me out here. If I start at the #1 cylinder the dots on my crank and cam gears line up (one pointing up and one pointing down) - this is TDC for the #1 cylinder correct? Now I would tighten the poly lock nut hand tight, then 1/4 more turn and then tighten the set screw and move onto the second rocker arm of the #1 cylinder?

If that is correct then how much to I turn the crank to know I am ready to the intake port (exhaust is first correct then intake for each cylinder?)

If not correct, please advise me otherwise. I really appreciate the patience of those who help out here.

Re: Installing poly locks

You don't need to know what position the crank is in so much with that method. You set the intake valve on a cylinder when you see the exhaust valve opening, and you set the exhaust valve when you see the intake valve closing.

Re: Installing poly locks

Where can I see these valves opening and closing? Can I simply look in the exhaust ports on the sides of the heads? Intake is already on so I cannot see much.

You've got the rocker covers off, just watch them.
