84 trans am with horrible gas mileage

bought this car about a month ago. it had been sitting for 4 years. guy i bought it from said he emptied gas and put new gas in. after i got it i changed spark plugs/ wires, cap/rotor, coil and new air filter. ran a bottle of sea foam through the gas as well as changed the oil. i have now gone through 2 tanks of gas the first i got about 160 miles out of it and this time i got about 170/175 miles on a 13.22 gallon fill up. so im getting about 13/14 mpg. only things i have not changed is the fuel filter being that i cant get the damn line off and the oxygen sensor. on cold starts the car can idle low and at other times idle at about 1500 rpm until i hit the gas. only other thing i can think of is that it has an exhaust leak around the cat. once the car warms up it drives what seems like just fine. im not even sure what this car can even get for mileage so if im getting horrble gas mileage and you have suggestions on what may be the issue please let me know. thanks

Re: 84 trans am with horrible gas mileage

Has the carb been rebuilt? I was getting around the same MPG with my '84 T/A before the carb was freshed up but after a rebuild kit and throttle shaft bushings it jumped to 20-24 MPG.
