Ignition Coil - Will MSD fit???
Ignition Coil - Will MSD fit???
I have a 87 Iroc w/ 350 TPI. I looked in my engine bay and if what I think I have found is the stock ignition coil it looks extremely smaller than the MSD replacement that I have seen online. I am looking to swap in the MSD 8226. The piece that I have found is behind the runners on the passenger side however part of it falls under the cover piece on top of the motor. I circled it below in the picture. Are there some kind of mods that will need to be done to make the MSD work? or will the MSD fit right in? It just looks like it is 3 or 4x bigger in the pictures I have seen online. Also will upgrading to the MSD ignition coil give any significant improvement to starting or is it only worthe it if adding a whole ignition system with control module and everything like that?

The MSD coil will fit, same size, online pictures can be decieving like a personal ad
They give you these bolts in the kit that you can use to bolt to your factory mounting bracket which bolts to your intake manifold.
To get your old bracket off of your old coil you have to grind the rivets out.

Mine is a TBI, but I have the same MSD coil, so I would assume we have the same factory coil.
The only thing I really encountered any kind of problem with was that the mounting move it slightly forward or backward of the factory one. But it fit just fine. These aren't the greatest but they are pics of mine in my car.
