What effects would there be If I removed the smog control from my 92 Camaro RS, I'm pretty sure mpg would drop, but would it hender engine performance?

Re: Smog Control?

a lot depends on where you and car live . if you have inspections you may need to keep it . if not go ahead . if anything mileage will get better . just take 1 step at a time , let ECM adjust a day or 2 . then do the next step . i started with smog pump , then cat gut , 3" catback , then headers , and air filter induction . ended up with 27-29+ m.p.g. hwy . performance will be better . worked for me . good luck .

Re: Smog Control?

First, This is a common topic and you'll find your answers there.

Second, remember its illegal to remove, disable, or tamper with smog devices on a street vehicle in all 50 United States (and I think Canada too) regardless of whether your state does emissions checks or not.

I just passed CA's smog test in my highly modified car. I kept everything hooked up and I still make this much power. It can be done.

Re: Smog Control?

Air pump isent to blame for the LO3's 170hp, you would gain more hp by changing the stock air filter every month then by removing the air pump.

The complete stock exhaust sistem that came with the LO3 is wery restrictive and should be upgraded. A highflow 3" cat will not hurt performance and fuel economy at all.
Full exhaust will give your LO3 around 15-20hp and better fuel economy.

Removing EGR gives less MPG and does not affect performance at any noticebly level.
