89gta whats correct oil pressure?
I have an 89gta 350 no mods and it just got 86,705 miles on it. i was wondering what should my oil press be at? it seemed when i bout it 8yrs ago it was always at 60. now when i start it its close to the 60 mark but when it warms its just above the 30 marK? is this bad is my oil pump going out, or just car gettin worn?

Have the same problem. Wondering this answer myself. I have asked a few other 3rd gen owners and all 3 of them have oil pressure problems. They tell me that the sender likes to get loose from the passenger side of the block. I'd definately check it, although that doesn't sound like your problem its still worth the time to check it.

Those are the same #s I have at 170,000 miles. 60-ish at start up, 30-ish after its warmed up.
And I have zero problems with my 350 & feels like it still has plenty of power & lights up my 9-bolt/3.27/posi/285 tires, at will.

yep, seen the same on previous cars of mine. Most of the time I like to believe that there is just some trash on the sending unit.
I had a 91 v6 car that had 0psi on the gauge and ran great.
I connected a manual gauge to the eng. instead of the electronic sending unit and when I started the car the mechanical gauge immediately jumped to around 45psi. at idle.I cleaned the sending unit up,stuck it back in and had an oil pressure reading again.

I haven't looked at mine yet, but when you took out the sending unit did you have to take it out of the block? I'm told its on the passenager side of the block? Also when you took it out did any oil leak anywhere?

I don't know how many psi as mine is in metric. But it seems to depend on weather.
Cold temps, it goes right to all the way over until the car is fully warmed up. Then it's maybe 2 ticks off full.
On a hot day it starts past the 3/4 mark. Idling while warmed up on a hot day, it will hang around the halfway point. Usually higher than half, but sometimes not.

It is usually right near the oil filter. It looks kinda like some knock sensors I guess. It should screw in. The body of it is usually black plastic. I believe that it has a 2 wire connector on it.

Re: 89gta whats correct oil pressure?
On v-8 cars, go about 8 inches up the side of the block by the oil filter and there's a thing about 3 inches long and about 1 inch in diameter sticking straight out the side of the block. Thats the oil pressure sending unit. It has a two wire connector on it, and may be silver or black depending on year model. It's about 25.00 for a new one and its a little hard to get a wrench on, with the exhaust pipe in the way, but when I replaced mine last weekend my indicated oil pressure just about doubled. I replaced it because it was leaking. I was very happy to see the needle move higher on the gauge. I've already put off plans for an engine change.
