Cam change in 150k motor good or bad?

Car: 89 IROC convert.
Engine: tpi 305
Transmission: T-5
Axle/Gears: 3.42 10 bolt
Cam change in 150k motor good or bad?
My TPI 305 seems to be in pretty good shape, but has about 150K miles on it. Since my car was originally automatic, I've been living with a teeny weeny cam. I'm thinking about changing cams to a stock LT1 which is about the same as the manual trans 305 cam.
Just wondering if this is a good idea on a motor with so many miles.
