Car Dies n wont start back up
Car Dies n wont start back up
The car will run for a while I can even drive it but just all of a sudden it dies. The fuel pump had been making alot of extra noise that can be heard from the tank and in the fuel lines under the hood. So I went ahead and dropped the tank and replaced the fuel pump. But still had same noise and also the car still dies. I have a 85 T/A that had tpi, I converted to a carb when i swapped motors but when i replaced the fuel pump I just put the stock one back in. No matter I dont understand why it just dies suddenly and wont start back up for quite a while. After about an hour or so I can go back out and start the car again let it run for about a minute and a half then it will die again. Please help me find out what i should be looking for. Thanks in advance for your help guys!

might be the ignition module when it gets hot it stops working and when it cools down its good again. I had to replace mine. My car never stopped running but when I would shut it off and try to restart I would have to wait for it to cool down. I have an 88 tpi 5.7 -- might not be it but just an idea
Re: Car Dies n wont start back up
Ill take a look but I converted from TPI to carb so i dont think the Ignition module has any effect on the motor anymore

When it is not able to run check for consistent spark on all wires. Also check fuel pressure. Maybe pull the plugs out and take a look at them.
My guess is that you are having an issue with the ignition so I would start there.

The ignition module is a component within the distributor. It will exist whether computer or no-computer unless you have a box like MSD that is wired directly into the pick-up coil.
From your symptoms, that's what it sounds like, either that and/or the coil. What kind of distributor are you using?
