oh goddddd.. Some help needed

So after 15 mins of trying to jump start my camaro after not being started for a month because of some engine work that i was doing.. I replaced the valve seals and fixed my exhuast leak(partly)

Well... The reason i replaced my seals is because my car was smoking like a chiminy after idling for about 30 secs.. Well I thought it was the rings but the symptons didnt match up.. So i replaced my seals and i was right.. Turns out my car didnt have any valve seals on the intake stem.. Whoever did the job needs to retire.

i finally got my car started today for the first time in a month.. Yeah it sounded like crap because there was a vac leak.. Half of the valves where knocking.. But the exhuast didnt pour out blue smoke anymore! Mission accomplished. So we took it out for a ride.. It went all well for the first 2 blocks.. Then we look behind us and its pouring out smoke again.. It didnt do this before.. Even without the seals.. So what did i do?

Would over tightened valves cause this? Thats the only thing i can think of right now

We had sort of similar problems, i would just go through the valves and redo them, its not that big of a job. a vaccum leak can really mess some things up, but try the valves first and work from there.

I know after I redid mine it smoked for a little bit but after a little while it was fine and never smoked again, I was told the seals just needed to seat them selves if that's true I don't know but I never had anymore problems

Its knocking like hell so i have to take off the valve covers again anyway.. So you think thats a possibility? Because all i did was tighten the valves and put the covers back on.

It smoked like hell at first.. It still smokes alittle but im sure its just burning off all the left over oil in the cylinders

You didn't set the valves? You just tightened them??? Hopefully you didn't bend any valves.
Take the covers up and set the lash correctly. Take it for a spin and hopefully you'll be happy.

I didnt tighten them that much.. There was still a good amount of play in the valves.. I just wanted to get it running.. THEN work out all the bugs.

Then some are going to be too tight and some too loose. Hopefully the oil burning is coming from the loose valves.

A word of advice ------ NEVER throw it together to see if it works and THEN work out the bugs. Put it together right and THEN work out any bugs.

It can save you money in the future. I've learned an expensive lesson or two myself.

Lol.. I know.. I tried to set the valves but i gave up.. I was going to do it while the engine was running but i thought id throw the covers on first.. see how bad it knocks and find out where its coming from.. So got the back of the driver side cover is the area its making the most noise

Re: oh goddddd.. Some help needed

Reset them all the correct way.
Comp Cams website has a really good valve set write-up.

I used that method with no issues. What sucked was I like to set final lash with the engine running. Couldn't do that this time due to my exhaust being too loud.

Same here. I set first lash by manually rotating the engine and then final lash with it running itself.
I'm a major advocate of that method.

But....opinions are like......

Re: oh goddddd.. Some help needed

Adjusting valves are a bitch.. mannn.. If it isnt a deadly rod knock sound.. its a little click click noise.. I cant get them right at all. lol This is alot harder the i thought. I thought i had a rod knock at first so i loosened all of the valves and the knock went away..

Any tips?? Im getting oil everywhere.. so i want to get this done asap.

Also.. When the car is running.. It shakes a bit.. any idea if that is part of the valves?
