Fuel Supply
Fuel Supply
I have a 92 RS ragtop, 305 V8. All of a sudden my engine isn't getting a constant fuel flow. I have to pump the gas peddle to get it to start, then it will run as long as I lightly pump the gas peddle and stall in a few seconds when I take my foot off the pedal. I changed the fuel filter, no help. Is there a way that I can tell if there is something wrong with the fuel pump, or what else can I check to see why the fuel isn't flowing properly.

Unless it has been converted to carburetor, pumping the gas pedal doesn't do anything.
What induction does it have, TBI or TPI? With TPI, you can attach a fuel pressure gage. TBI is a little more difficult. But, it isn't uncommon for the in-tank electric fuel pump to fail.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm quite sure it has TBI, I don't have a pressure gauge and was just wondering if there was another way to see if it is the fuel pump or something else. I had a '91 and it lost fuel pressure, had none at all, I went through all the work to drop the tank and replace the pump, it turned out it was the oil pressure switch that went bad and no power was going to the pump. I'm just unable to do that kind of work anymore due to a bad lower back.

Re: Fuel Supply
The only way to test fuel delivery is to test the pressure and flow. Since yours is TBI I strongly suggest that you test this at the connections near the front of the engine. Testing it at the throttle body is a PAIN. Or, you could get a tool that connects in place of the fuel filter. Testing flow at the fuel filter is probably not such a good idea though.
Re: Fuel Supply
Thanks a lot, I had my Blazer in for an oil change and my mechanic told me that the Camaro has to have a pressure test to see if the pump is bad...I just hate putting any more money into it then I already did, new top, paint, brakes rotors Aluminum radiator, ign wires plugs, carpeting. Now that it is where I want it I have to sell it, 3 torn discs keep me from enjoying it. Thanks again.
