gas smell and a tick

i was driving and started to smell gas so i pulled over and pop the hood and i can smell it but cant find a leak. then it went away for a week or two. then i noticed a tapping sound developed. so i parked the car for a week. last time i took it out it still had the tapping noise AND the gas smell is back. i havent had a chance to really look at it. but is it possible that maybe an injector is going bad? could that be the clicking? and if its not working properly its just dumping fuel? any feedback would be appreciated

Re: gas smell and a tick

Yes, it is possible. I had something very similar happen to me... I could smell gas but couldn't find it. Finally my motor hydro-locked and wouldn't roll over due to a cylinder full of fuel.

You can put the car on ramps, take out 1 spark plug at a time and then have someone bump the ignition. If fuel comes out of the spark plug hole - you found your bad injector.

Hope this helps!

Re: gas smell and a tick

ok so i used a stethoscope and located the noise. it was inside the passenger side valve cover. i found a retainer clip and a couiple small pieces of metal. i havent been able to check it out during the day because by the time i get home from work its dark. but does anyone have any ideas on what to look for? im guessing it has to be either a lifter or a rocker?

Hmmm.. Can you tell me what is the condition of your front side cover gaskets ? Do you ever consider a valve gasket replacement? I can't figure it out myself
