how much longer will my engine go?

Hey guys, I have a 1990 camaro rs v8 305, great car, i love it to death, but the engine has 218,000 miles on it. The motor runs strong, I used to have an overheating problem and the temp would go way up and the motor still hasn't blown on me and i give civics and other rice rockets a run for their money at any opporitunity so my question is how much longer will my engine go before it dies? I bought it about eight months ago and it hasn't had any problems, I don't think it's ever been rebuilt. Thanks for any help.

It all depends. If you baby it and maintain it, it should go for quite a while longer. Every engine is different. It all depends on YOU.

LOL, those 305's are hard to kill! Everyone I know that has one (Including me) says that. If you want it dead, youre going to have to kill it yourself!

Re: how much longer will my engine go?

my 90 rs has 180000 mi on it and it still runs like a champ too, close to 150 psi across all cylinders and tons of oil pressure, i had the same engine in a 88 pickup a couple years back it had well over 200,000 on it spent a lifetime hauling heavy loads , the body fell apart and the engine was still running, now it's in a guys 4x4 towing logs in the woods. 305 = indestructible

Re: how much longer will my engine go?

yeah theyre fighters, mines got 215K on mine and its a beast still, minor oil spatters like youd find on any old motor, Holds up to abuse pretty well still, my tranny has given in before my motor. As far as that temp thing i wouldnt trust the gauges, i started datalogging mine to see why its running "hot" and its really not, the gauge is pegged when im in traffic but my log says it never peaked above 210*, i dont pay attention to factory gauges except my speedo/ tach and gas lol

If your that worried about it you could get a gasket kit and regasket the motor, get new valves etc, give her a little freshening up with a rebuild

If you happy with it now though i say drive it, i love my 305, im just biding my time til it blows up so i can have that excuse to install a 350 tpi
